Get To Know Our Team part 5
It's time for part five of getting to know our amazing Dick's Drive-In team and this time we are headed to a truly behind-the-scenes department, Construction and Real Estate! When you think of Dick’s Drive-In employees you probably jump straight to the crew behind the windows flipping burgers, frying fries and hand-whipping milkshakes. You might also think of our Operations or Online Store/Marketing team. But I can almost bet the last thing you would have come up with was the person making sure all the construction happens for our new and current restaurants. It’s time to change that, so this month we meet the Director of Construction and Real Estate, Martti Travis!
What is a short description of your job?
In my role, I manage and oversee the construction and renovation of our restaurants. Furthermore, I facilitate the procurement of new locations. As a Director, I also have the privilege of working within communities and non-profits as a brand ambassador.
How long have you been with the Drive-In?
7 years
How did you get involved with the Drive-In?
I was initially hired as a consultant to solve a very complex and time-sensitive project. During that project, it became clear to both sides that a more permanent working relationship would be mutually beneficial.
What is your go-to Drive-In order?
Two Cheeseburgers and a Diet Coke.
What is your favorite menu item to recommend others should try?
The Deluxe!
What is your favorite Online Store item (so far?)
The stickers! I love stickers and the variety is wonderful. I am usually sharing stickers with family and friends.
What is your favorite Drive-In memory?
During the grand opening of the Kent location, we had a couple in the parking lot for their 30th anniversary. The original wedding proposal was 30 years earlier in the parking lot of our Wallingford location. Thankfully, they had pictures from that original wedding proposal that I could check out.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I am an avid baseball fan. I can often be found at Mariners, UW and even local Little League baseball games. Traveling with my wife and family is probably my greatest joy.
Anything else you would like to share?
Dick's Drive-in is a culture more than a company. It was this culture that caused me to move across the country to work and close my own hospitality consulting business after 24 years.
I have been a customer for close to 60 years starting out in hi school at the Lake City location, After I retired I Moved to LaQuinta Ca for the last 20 some years! I have recently moved back to Washington and purchasing a home in Marysville, I now find I am traveling to the Edmonds location often, but would love to see a location in Marysville!!! and I know it would be VERY popular as I have waited in line for close to an hour, for the food truck when it has come to Marysville!! I am 78 years old and don’t have a lot of time to wait for a Dick’s to come to Marysville! So hurry!!! Thanks Mike Todd PS say Hi to Doug Spady I met him in California!!!
