70th Anniversary Celebration part 2

On January 28th, we celebrated the 70th Anniversary of Dick's Drive-In! Back in 1954, our first location in Wallingford opened and we have been serving up delicious memories ever since. To help us celebrate we asked some of our most tenured employees to share a few of their favorite Drive-In memories and we are back with part two of their stories. Share your favorite memory with us in the comments!

Ben H - Training Manager

  • Starting Position: Crew Member
  • Years with Dick’s Drive-In: 22+

"I grew up in Greenwood and loved going to the Holman Road location with my family regularly. I was always impressed by the hard-working crew. When I was 13, I met Kim Yockey, the store manager of 45th. I told her that I planned to work for her when I was old enough. She smiled and said that I could apply but Dick's Drive-In doesn't just hand out positions. At 16, I was determined and applied. I was part of a group interview and one of the deciding factors was to calculate a series of math questions in your head and respond quickly with the correct answer. I was confident I impressed them. The next day, I was so excited when I got the call and was offered the position. My first day started the following week and 22 years later, I am still here striving to accomplish what I set out to do when I was younger.”

"Wow, this is an incredibly difficult question to answer for I have so many wonderful memories and moments. My first memory would be all of the wonderful people I have had the pleasure of working with, and the many friendships I have made, some who still work here now who I consider best friends.

One time I was the Store Manager at 45th many years ago and I was going up front to check a $100 bill that was called from main, when I went to go verify the bill which was legit. I quickly glanced and smiled at the customer who happened to be Bill Gates. He smiled and I giggled, thinking it was quite comical.

Another one was more recent when I was visiting ED, I was leaving to get into my car and looked inside and Allie G. was the Store Manager and Sara C. was Training Manager at the time and it made me laugh. If someone had told me 10 years ago that these two individuals would be in this position 10 years from now I would have said "NO WAY"!

It's amazing to see how people mature and grow and learn through their experiences all the good days, and some bad days to become leaders at Dick's Drive-In.

So many more stories, I'll share some more on the 100th anniversary :)!"
